How to nominate

1. Choose your category

There are 11 Excellence Award categories in 2024:

Individual or Team Awards:

  • Excellence in Aged Care
  • Excellence in Education
  • Excellence in Research and Innovation

Team Awards:

  • Excellence in Practice – Team

Individual Awards:

  • Excellence in Leadership and Governance
  • Excellence in Leadership – Emerging Leader
  • Excellence in Practice – Aboriginal Nurse/Midwife (Mary Buckskin Award)
  • Excellence in Practice – Early Career Nurse/Midwife
  • Excellence in Practice – Enrolled Nurse
  • Excellence in Practice – Midwife
  • Excellence in Practice – Registered Nurse

The nomination criteria for each category is listed further in the Nomination Guide. Please carefully consider which is the most appropriate category for your nomination, as an individual or team may only be nominated for one award.

2. Write your nomination
Nominations should be written in a style that is clear, easy to understand and avoids jargon.

Please ensure you address each question in the nomination. Provide objective examples to support your claim and consider the information that may be most relevant to the judging panel.

You may wish to download a Microsoft Word nomination form to use as a ‘working document’ prior to submitting your nomination online.

3. Submit your entry
All entries must be submitted via the online nomination portal.

You will need to create a login and follow the steps to complete your nomination.

Entries will close 22 December 2023.

Eligibility
The South Australian Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards are open to South Australian nurses and midwives from all healthcare sectors and settings. To be eligible for nomination, a nurse or midwife must:

  • Be working either full-time, part-time or casually as a nurse or midwife (in a nursing/midwifery-related role) at the time of nomination.
  • Hold a practising certificate with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) and have no conditions or undertakings on their registration.
  • Not be the subject of any employer performance management or disciplinary processes.
Conditions of entry
  • You cannot self-nominate for an Excellence Award.
  • Nominations from previous years can be resubmitted for consideration.
  • Previous award winners will not be eligible for nomination for three years following the receipt of their award.
Judging
  • An independent committee will consider the evidence for all nominations in accordance with the award category criteria and provide a shortlist to the judging panels for adjudication.
  • A judging panel comprising representatives from the public, private, aged care, non-government, community and higher education sector will assess the nominations.
  • All decisions of the judging panel are final, and it is not a requirement of the judging panel to provide feedback to nominees.
  • If two finalists cannot be split by the judging panel, the Chief Nurse and Midwifery Officer, SA Health will select the winner.
The fine print
  1. SA Health reserves the right to, at any time, verify a nomination or nominee, and disqualify a nominee it has reason to believe has submitted an entry not in accordance with these Terms and Conditions, or has engaged in conduct that has the potential to bring SA Health and/or the nominee’s organisation into disrepute.
  2. All prizes will be awarded on the condition the finalists and winners agree to accept their prize in person at the Excellence Awards Gala Dinner held on the Friday 3 May 2024.
  3. Prizes are not transferable or exchangeable.
  4. Only those nominees that make it through to finalist status will be notified after the nomination close-off date by a SA Health representative.
  5. Finalists retain responsibility to maintain an appropriate standard of professional conduct, and must immediately notify SA Health if they are or become the subject of any investigation, findings, judgement of current proceeding, including but limited to findings, in relation to fraud, misrepresentation or dishonesty, in any administrative, civil or criminal proceedings in any country, and must declare to SA Health if any standard of professional conduct has been compromised.
  6. SA Health reserves the right to use any entries, photographs, video, media and/or articles of the finalists and winners for promotional purposes.
  7. Winners details such as name, employer/workplace, and other details in relation to the nomination, may be released to the media after the Excellence Awards Gala Dinner.
  8. Details of nominees, finalists and winners will be shared with SA Health’s event management partner, All Occasions Group, for the purposes of planning the Excellence Awards Gala Dinner.
